My challenges:
I will start the scene in the middle of the desert with an indian teepee, some rock formations, cactus's. The middle will be a western town and at the end I will make a gold mine. Depending on the time I have I will make a section of the gold mine interior and even the interior of a saloon.
- getting better at using UDK
- adding a lot of post processing and effects in UDK
- making something that looks awesome and consistent in style
- day/night scene (final submission will the one that looks better)
- ATTENTION TO DETAILS
- finishing in 4 weeks

Can't wait to see some new env art from you.
I don't like to jump between ideas all day, finishing something is a lot more rewarding but I will change my theme and work on a Wild West themed Beat 'em up with a stylized semi-realistic style.
This will be a lot more fun to work on and it will look better as a side scroller
I looked thought most of the threads, I hope there's isn't another wild west inspired entry :shifty:

I think I'm going to start making some houses next. A few generic ones to get into the flow.
The house isn't stylized yet. I was just blocking it out
The generic houses will be made up of modules (to model as little as possible but to have diversity at the same time).
There's not a lot of diversity yet but I plan to make at least 3 different assets for every different type of section in the picture above.
The special houses (like Saloon, Bank, Sheriff's office, Prison, Church) will have their own personalized model.
Um, that's pretty rude. Props are what pull the whole level together, and he's making fantastic progress. Nobody needs to do it the same way you would...

I made enough parts to generate a few different houses with one or two levels.
I'm going to spend the rest of the week making some special buildings and getting everything inside UDK.
erm nope props are not what pulls the whole level together
and its not rude... just upfront ;-)
ive seen a fair few levels and worlds built and the ones that hold together well are not built from a collection of props...
having said that your props do look nice but it would take the same time to block the level out and check that your buildings props work within the camera limits, composition, design etc as it would to make one of your props so get it done or show it if yer have already. may save you time in the long run if you decide you cant fit in all the props you have or dont need to build more as the space is already filled...
also be carefull with moelling so many parrellel lines into meshes it can look shit depending on the engines AA solution and can often look better textured
