Curious who everyones favorite female characters are.
Let's leave it to books, comics, games, and no real people (cus real peeps are def boring).
I will start with:
Samus Aran: (Metroid)
and a worthy mention would be Harley Quinn, even though she isn't technically a lead how can u not love her.
And yes Lara Croft, but that goes without saying.

Such incredible games
I also liked Terra from FF6 and Amaterasu from Okami (even though the latter is a wolf.. a female wolf.)
seriously though.
I'd say Alex (HL2) but for nostalgia's sake it has to be Lara from original tombraider. Triangular breats blew my mind at the time and her accent was much better back then. It also help that Rhona Mitra was the Lara girl at the time.
This!
Also, Jill Valentine from RE3 she was sexy.

This!
Is it based on their story, the gameplay for the game they're in or just their looks?
Anyway, my favourite female character of all time is Chun Li!
I never understood her shrunken head though. Why on earth did they do that..Its FREAKY DEAKY! Makes me laugh every time I see it.
Fun Fact: Bayonetta's character designer was a woman. Unexpected, eh?
Besides the nostalgic shock value of being a female lead (omg wimmin!) Samus is a pretty pathetic excuse for a character. People need to move on. She never had any character. She never had personality. Now she's a sex icon with G cup breasts who runs around in skintight suits for no reason. Shouldn't we be shooting a little higher than "omg she was a woman on the NES" by now?
Female characters can be sexualized and still have character, though. See: Cate Archer (NOLF), Morrigan (Dragon Age), and hell even Bayonetta had considerably more depth than Samus.
And if anyone says Faith from Mirror's Edge is a good character punch yourself in the face. Just because she had small tits didn't make her a good character. Again, like Samus, she didn't have any character. What little she said was bland or stupid or annoying. There's a reason they kept talking about her athletic build: because there was nothing else to talk about.
Valis
One of my favourite literary female protagonists is Nelly from Wuthering Heights. She's quite funny - I can imagine her rolling her eyes at the ridiculous drama that surrounds her as the servant and primary nurse of the two households. At the same time, she's incredibly loving and compassionate. A hard, blunt, but genuinely caring young woman. I don't read much.
GLaDOS and SHODAN are both beyond awesome.
SHODAN FTW !.. Ireally wish someone would remake SS1 and 2 no need to be all smart assed and redesign it.. same story with current tech..
Also Jill Valentine from RE5
and Cammy from SF (though not a lead)
I love Capcom girls.
I really liked Jennifer Hale's portrayal of Jane Shepard in mass effect 2. She was the most alive and believable character I've ever seen in a game.
+1: for a remake of SS1. what an amazing game
Do SHODAN and GladOS count?
Alisia Dragoon was my first favourite female lead character.
Kate Archer comes in a close second, alonside Chloe, also from Uncharted 2.
However, here's a challenge. Non-caucasian leading females.
As an artist looking to get into the industry, and eventually head up my own games, I'm very aware of how many games have just caucasian main characters.
Jade is probably tied with her, but I think shes seen enough fans in this thread
Never actually played it, but Darci from Urban Chaos:

or Sheva from RE5:

Female Commander Shepard. I think her voice was more expressive than the male.
Kreia from Knights of the Old Republic 2.
Two pages and no mention? For shame.
In games I was very impressed by Olga Gurlukovich from MGS2. The cutscene before the bossfight against here was so great.
Movie: Sarah Connor
Animation: Nausicaa
Game Villain: Kerrigan
Game Hero: Shanoa
Book: Brandy Alexander from Invisible Monsters
Comic Character: Death
yes! she's back!
