maya vert moving

i want to be able to move a vert (or any component) using screen space. so i can just middle mouse click and drag it and it will translate according to which angle im viewing it. but sometimes the move widget gets locked onto 2 axes (like in the example on the right side). how can i get it back to the one on the left so i can move it in relation to my screen? Running maya 7 btw

CTRL + middle-click the yellow box in the middle of the manipulator.

ok, cool. so thats how you lock it. but how do you get it back to being relevant to the view angle? like in the first example. ctrl+middle clicking changes the axes that its locked to, i cant get it back.

Not sure if this will help you out and you may know it already; you can constrain your verts to edges by holding C and middle mouse drag on the desired edge.

Ctrl-middle click should toggle between the 'to camera' and 'to axii' modes. Maybe just ctrl-left click? (don't have maya open right now)

To set it to a specific plane Ctrl+LMB on any of the axis.
