Maya - ATI Radeon Issue

Hey Guys,

I'm sure this has been spoken about before. But...

i've just upgraded my comp including my GPU and i've switched from Nvidia to a Radeon 5850. Since doing so my Maya is now buggy. I can't select objects whilst in surface mode (so in wire frame i can select it, but not when the surfaces are rendered on the screen). I've googled and googled and found nothing that works.

Does anyone know any cheeky fixes to get this working properly?

If I'm not mistaken, Radeons don't have the best track record with OpenGL programs, hence my 30 mins of reading up.

Only solutions I can offer are
1.Checking whether your drivers are up to date (I'm sure this isn't the cause, but you never know)

2. Flash your card with FireGL drivers, though this seems to have a slight risk factor(I maybe wrong).

AFAIK, only ATI's professional cards work fine, whereas the consumer cards tend to get fussy. Which is why I have to stick with Nvidia

hmm dont have a 5850 but have a 3870 and everything is fine on my side. have you done driver updates

yeah i've already got the latest drivers, tried a few different versions actually, i'll just keep trying stuff

Hey Draffin try installing diversweeper (http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/) Usually when you uninstall drivers, there are leftovers and they sometimes do some wonky stuff.

I have radeon 5850 windows7 64bit, no problems in maya it's most likely a driver issue. I think I'm running some out of date beta drivers but I found the whole stable driver issue with ati such a piece of shit that I will never update my drivers for fear of messing something up. Totally hating this card compared to my old geforce 250 gtx

Only the high end FireGL, and nvidia Quadro cares are "officially" supported with maya. However, it seems the nvidia gamer cards are a lot more stable in maya than ATI.

You know, check your Camera Near Clip plane in your view ports. Try turning them up to .01 or .1 or so. I had some funky selection issues and it was because i was working large in a UDK-ish scale that caused the problems.

It never used to be a problem in Max, as far as I was aware, but increasingly you start hearing "Max is slow? Well, only these cards are supported:..." as an official response to complaints of slowness

Well, i installed the new Radeon drivers (10.4 i think) and everything is working dandy
