Large transactions online - safest method?

I'm selling my Cintiq 21 to another Polycounter and I'm looking for suggestions on how to complete a transaction safely between us. Also does anyone have an estimate on how much shipping within the US would be for one of these?

Some people like to work through eBay but they rape on fees. Paypal also, and they max out at $500 a month.

Has anyone here completed a large transaction of this nature online? Any suggestions would be great.

Make sure they're a trusted artist, get them on the phone if possible.

Bank wire, or paypal.

email..... no, seriously. if you have online banking, you can email money to other people. password protected and all. they get an email saying you wanna give them money, they have to click a link, it asks what bank they have online banking with, then you type in the password. its almost instant too. sometimes takes up to 10 minutes. but its good. its how i pay my rent, and have sent money to friends across country before too. never had an issue

If they trust you to ship it, you can just direct debit the money via online banking, otherwise I guess you need some kind of escrow service (use ebay?)

I use bank transfer, I dont see why you'd resort to ebay especially if you already got a buyer...

I've been paid internationally, via Paypal instant, Paypal echeque and a wire transfer.

AFAIK, both instant Paypal and a wire transfer have fees. I don't think a Paypal echeque does, but it can take up to 5 - 7 working days to clear.

Just use paypal. I sell most stuff via paypal... Don't do the ebay auction and buy it now thing because there is ALWAYS the slight risk someone sees it and buys it before the other guy. WHICH WOULD BE ALL KINDS OF BAD!!!

Just use paypal. Its insured and trusted.

I'm not sure of the specifics but I know Paypal can hold your money if you're not like a regular user, although it might just be when using eBay.

I barely use eBay at all but I sold my laptop last year, the transaction totalled like £850 and I had to wait 30 days before Paypal released the funds. Which sucked.

Western Union money order; ship it once you collect the funds (no need for exchanging bank info); re: shipping estimate; go to wacom figure out weight and dimensions, then call either fedex or ups for quotes. check with buyer how soon they want it (next day, 2 days, truck vs plane, etc.).

I might be old school, but have him mail you a check. When the check clears send him the product. No fees, no worries.

That's the way online retailers operate. You give them money. Once they have it, they send their product.

Also, you may consider shipping insurance. It may cost a little, but it's cheaper than if they damage the Cintiq during shipping.

Yeah I would rather just get a cheque and wait for it to clear. It protects the seller, but dosen't leave the buyer much protection

Paypal take 3-4% in business transactions and then theres a fee (£5) to transfer it to a bank account. You also need to verify your bank and verify personal details to lift the limit which sometimes can be a nightmare. If not verified you can only put £1750 in /year, withdraw £650 total /year or £500 a month (still has the $650 cap per year). Its still the safest way for both buyer and seller in my eyes but you gotta do a bit of work to get it setup for large transactions
