I know i know, not yours etc.
Ok, so my wife wants to do some blogging, so i'm trying to look into what site/software for her to use. She's signed up for a blogger account but it seems pretty terrible. I'm looking at wordpress as it seems like i need to install it on my webhost, which is fine because i have a webhost that i use for virtually nothing, and even a domain for her which is again, used for virtually nothing.
So, comments, suggestions on various sites etc are welcome.
The biggest requirements are that it not be retarded, and work well with medium-largish images with breaking the formating.

As well as being a pretty solid CMS, there are a zillion themes and plugins to either download for free or buy, if you or your wife aren't web dev-inclined.
Tons of online support and she can 'blog' from virtually anywhere.

many hosting services will quickly install wordpress. the software itself informs you when it should be updated, and takes no time. it's good for something like a blog for an already popular domain, or a portfolio. hundreds of themes...or create your own.
many of the personal blogs i have bookmarked are on blogger. it gets the job done. not all look that bad.

I would go for that.
I've been having tons of trouble seeing images 'hosted' on blogspot in the last week though images are half loading...
I've used wordpress, just to poke around a bit, and found it extremely easy to work with. Anyone who can use Word can use wordpress, which should be great for your wife, depending on how computer-savvy she is.
Although, they recently introduced a real time theme customizer.
Ok, so onto another issue. How the hell do you subscribe to a WP blog? With blogger it is easy as hell, you've just got to have a twitter or gmail account and click a button. With WP it seems like you gotta install some plugins or your users have to have special readers or some bullshit, whats the deal?
Haha seriously though, the power of wordpress is that it is relatively clean and simple when you install it, you need to use plugins to customise it to your personal needs!
This one could work for you?: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/subscription-options/
Moving away from it myself, though, because I need to run my own forums, etc, but for your wife's needs (blog-wise) it should be more than enough.
the css are super easy to configure, same with plugins, just download them and upload on your web host, then select in the admin page
you can have several blogs, just put each one in a specific folder, you can also have your index page linking to another folder further in the hierarchy that would be the blog folder, so that your root url is still your page adress
wai...wat?
ha sorry had to do it.
anyway all my friends who are super into bloggin use both WP and Blogger actually. they update them with the same shit. WP because its so much nicer and blogger because its so easy for friends of theirs who want to subscribe to be able to do so which it sounds like you already ran into. also it in turn makes it easy for those friends who subscribe to start there own blog if they want.
not to mention if your someone who wants the world to hear the dribble you think is important having 2 different blogging website do-dads is a pretty good way to go.
