Height Map help!!

Can somebody please tell me about Height Maps.
HOW are they created and why?

Also does Anybody know of a Photoshop plug in ( FOR MACINTOSH ) that helps you create Normal Maps?

You usually use height maps for the terrain ingame, a heightmap is basically a b/w image that offsets the geometry of a plane. Get world machine to make the heightmaps for you \o/

I don't know about the ps stuff though, you mean the nvidia/xnormal filters dont work for macs?

I figured this out shortly after I posted this. But thanks anyways. I appreciate it.

And NO... the Nvidia and Xnormal filter plugins are only made for PC Photoshop.
or at least thats what it seems.

If you hear of one for Macs, please let me know.

Hey ACM82,

I did a little bit of searching, and I came across this:

Its basically the same thing as the Nvidia normal map filter, but its for Mac.
