Anyway, I'm currently switching over to it now, and its awesome. You can use one of their templates, or if you a little more advanced in web design, edit the hell out of the templates to make you're own.

Really gorgeous templates; very straightforward portfolio designs which put the work front and center without glitz; allows you to tweak the CSS (and the HTML in the premium version), and if you want a custom URL and more project space, it's $66/year (which includes hosting). Honestly that seems really reasonable for hosting plus professional design, considering I pay more just for my current web host.
I will once I finish it.
oh and its free. I win. :P

i hate dreamweaver!
- one can right-click > save as on any picture
- there is no useless flash interface
- links to pages are easy to copy/paste
- resume is downloadable in a few useful formats
- preferably no shitty lightbox browser
It depends on what kind of job you are looking for. If you are looking for a job making game art, then no, you don't need to build your own site from scratch. They're only going to be interested in your art pieces. Sticking to a simple style for the site is just fine, as long as your pieces rock and they are front-and-center.
If you are looking for a job in web design, then yes, you will need to make your own site. And your code should kick-ass, because your potential employer is going to check on it.
And frankly, anyone who complains about Dreamweaver probably doesn't have the chops to make it in web design. To be fair, I only use Dreamweaver for text editing anyway. At home, I construct all my websites with Notepad++. Visual web editors are for chumps.
Perfect website described. Last one in particular, that thing really grinds my gears cause i like opening like 20 images in tabs in firefox and flipping through.
