WIP showreel

Hey guys, I stopped sculpting for a while to work on my iphone game and also realised I hadn't updated my showreel this year so thought I would put that together as well

I've already cropped it down a lot, removing mocap cutscenes with handkeyed facial, and removing a load of work I didn't really like

I'm still not sold on the death falling onto the spike but would like to hear what other people thing

Obviously I'm just putting it together now so haven't put any titles and things on it yet - so the feedback I'd like is more if pieces are good enough to be on the showreel or if they should be removed etc

Yoda looks a little weird when he is flying - at 0:18, first I thought he was just shaking in the air. Over all it's a pretty impressive showreel, good job.

Maybe you shouldn't start with the talking guy, he's kind of anoying

I love the angel/devil guys. Maybe you should start with one of those, going off what DeusExMatteo said. I kind agree. In general, amazing work. A lot of animation reels are pretty week but I actually enjoyed watching this one. The only thing I disliked was when Yoda did the jumping stab attack and glitched out in the air. Keep it up! Can't wait to see it with titles and music.

Hmmmm ok, the yoda anim was split up into 3 for the game, so you had into (where he jumps up) an idle in the air (where he's shaking, meant to look like he's falling through the air) and the final stab.... so maybe it just isn't reading right

Ah, yeah, it makes sense now that you explained it, so I guess it's just not reading right. Maybe show the movement more and actually have him jump off something high?

Did you actually work on Black and White? Or was that a recreation?

I worked on it, all the animations are from games apart from the first shot (the dialogue piece) and the guy with no arms jumping from pole to pole

The dialogue piece was for the 11secondclub monthly competition, I got an 18th place which is kinda sucky but I liked the piece anyway

be careful about putting animation mentor rigs on your reel -- if you did not attend their school and they catch you with the rigs they will make you take them off your reel.

with that being said...looks pretty awesome! nice work on the lip syncs.

It's ok, I took the animationmentor course (completed all classes except the final one, so I planned out and blocked out my shortfilm, just never got it finished)

Man, this is pretty awesome stuff dude!

My favorites were the turtle dude and watching Yoda get his ass kicked, lol.

One crit though, is that I wish you had added sound effects to the animations that don't have sound...or maybe some music...they're great on their own but as a vid they're kinda boring.

Very cool you worked on the B&W dudes. I loved that game when I was younger, and those two had so much character.

AutopsySoldier: I'll be adding some music once I've got the pieces all setup correctly, I normally just pick some light orchestral music like something from the Ghibli soundtracks - very little chance of me adding sound effects though as I'm so rubbish at doing stuff like that I think I'd actually make it worse

ru4it: I'm afraid that was the only angel/demon stuff I worked on for Black & White, I'll probably use fraps or something and get a proper video of it from ingame though as you get all the hair and things then as well and the quality of the actual render is terrible by todays standards (I no longer have the source files for it!)
