Research Facility - WIP 1.06.10

Hi All,
Here is my concept:
Idea behind it:
A small research facility established on a newly discovered planet mostly over taken by sand. The air is poisonous to human life. There are other forms of life undiscovered on the planet and readings have shown that its core has an endless supply of water and minerals. The facility is built to prepare the environment for population using terr-formation, nano technology, robotics, etc. A lone scientist and his machines reside in the facility prepping the surroundings for life.

it would physically make more sense if it said miles below the surface instead of core.
Sounds basically like mars...
Any tips in 3Ds Max as to how I should implement glows on props would be greatly appreciated!
I've heard of people painting color in their AO maps but I wasn't sure if that is the correct way of achieving a look like some of the glowing plants in Gears 2.
Daniel Doerksen - What type of project is it? Do you happen to have any of its progress online? I'd love to take a look or hear about it.
