HI guys, this is my first time trying to sculpt a full character in Zbrush, looking for some C&C as I am still learning.
(btw, my first time posting something here)

I'm trying to sculpt Guts from anime Berserk and will eventually sculpt the Berserk armor later, but still struggling to get the anatomy right.

Thank you for looking at my artwork.

I would check legs proportions one more time
Does he really have round lats and that tall gluts ?
Also everything below waist lack any contrast its pretty much straight down to the ground

Hi @JazzGaia you need to take a step back and focus on your larger forms. I've provided a quick little paintover below illustrating a few proportion problems. It's critical to nail down the correct proportions and silhouette. Try taking screenshots of your model and draw an outline of your model and then outline a photoscanned model, you will see major differences in your silhouette. It's important to learn the widest and narrowest parts of individual regions of the body. Cheers

Hi, @KingKellogg I'm thankful that you provide me with some reference. I really appreciate it however, I'm taking my sculpt on a different kind of perspective like how Guts will become if he's much older than now (thinking about how old this manga start) also what his body is like to be able to swing a giant sword roughly 200 cm without any problem lifting it so I'm taking my sculpt to a bit more realistic look.

Btw you have a very nice sculpt I like it.

Hi, @bkost Thank you for your clean and very straight explanation it made me understand what's wrong with my sculpt, also very thankful you guide me with your paint over that means a lot to me. Noted with thanks, would definitely fix the proportion. I will keep on the updates in this thread.

Hi guys, here's an updated version of my sculpt based on @bkost C&C.

Let me know what do you guys think about my sculpt right now, C&C are very much welcome
Next, I'll try to sculpt the hair and want to try using hair card to do it.

Hi @JazzGaia The biggest problem are your underlying proportions. I did another paintover  to illustrate the differences between your model and a scan of a bodybuilder. Compare the pelvis and rib cage widths and angles and the shoulder width. The forearms and ankles look much too large as well. If you want to really improve I suggest starting over and doing another study but focus on entirely proportions.

hi @bkost I am very thankful that you're with me on this until now and I do agree with you that there's some part that's not like real compared to a scan of a bodybuilder. For now, I'll try my best to fix what you've mentioned. For your suggestion maybe I'll try another sculpt later when I'm done with this sculpt and try to sculpt a realistic body. As I've said before that I'll make armor for him so the body sculpt will be closed later on.

I'll post an update after I'm done fixing the body and the rough sculpt of the armor.
    Thanks

It has been such a long long time since I haven't updated this post since February, but here it is I'm finally done with all the basic shape that I need.

    Check it out

as you can see some props are already in low poly because I'm using Maya to do the job
and pardon me for some part is a bit messy as I am still learning how to make crisp edges in ZBrush.

The next part I will be showing you is the Berserk state of the Berserker armor, let's check it out

and here's the body under that armor

The next step I will be doing is retopo for all the armor and body except the lower part of the body and after that will be UV, trying to make micro details in ZBrush and then texturing in Substance Painter.
Let me hear your opinion about this and C&C are very much welcome.

Thank you for looking at my artwork

Hi Guys, I'm done with the low poly of my model after it takes about 2 months (FINALLY)
It really took me quite a while as I try many things and also fix almost every armor parts that I made in Zbrush

All model including the hidden parts take almost reaching 60k Tris, normal version is about 50.5k while the berserk version 29.5k Tris

here's all picture of my progress so far:

I've also done the Uv map for all parts It took me for 7 UV maps
    here's the picture of it:

My next step would be to bring all this mesh to Zbrush again to create major detail in it and after that, I'll texture it using Substance Painter.
There are some parts that maybe will change such as more hair card after I'm done texturing it.
Please let me know in the comment what do you think about my work, C&C is very much welcome as I want to improve my 3D modeling to get into game industry.

I hope you enjoy looking at my progress, Thank you

@Shrike Hi Shrike thank you for your comment, I will look into what you mention
probably my guess because I made the jaw drop and made the bottom part a bit bigger at the back end of the helmet

Thanks please do look forward to my next progress

This is looking cool! I'm wondering why you're going for 10 texture sets, seems like a bit much no?

hi, @Ashervisalis Thank you! there are 2 reasons for that, the first one is to differentiate the UV map into skin shader or non-skin shader (recently know this stuff from my friend) the second one so I can try to give him much more detail as I can.
