Going to add a little bit more damage to the rocks and start working on some smaller assets out front, at the moment the scene will be a small diorama style environment.
I feel like you should have sculpted the planks of the door separately. The way you did it, the planks all warp and bend with each other, making it super easy to tell they were made of the same mesh.
thanks for the feedback! fully understand what you're saying I was kind of worrying about the same thing when I was making that section, I may go back and re adjust that section
Going to start working on foliage in another scene then come back to readjust some things in this scene, thinking of adding a few more small props in the scene - perhaps more wood to help diversify the types of materials in the scene more
I second what Ashervisalis said, You get much nicer separations between the different materials if you modelled them as separate pieces. IMO its also just easier to sculpt wood planks if they are all separate, it allows you to get full access to the edge and get nice isolated chipping without having to mess with masking.
I think it might be worth adding some larger forms to the rock frame, at the moment they all look pretty square. Just a few little chipped off corners would help break it up.

Thanks for the feedback! I will get to working on those aspects, this is my first time kind of posting things as a work in progress as I go along here and its really invaluable to have people comment and critique while you're still working on something!
Nice, those stones are looking a lot better. Some small crit, the right stone feels a bit like its welded to the ground, it would be nice to have a bit of edge wear like the bottom left one does. Also it feels like the door is sunk into the ground, it might be nice to elevate it slightly.
Kind of a big change here, so probably something you should consider early on, think about how the door would be constructed. If those doors were to open, what is holding the stones up? Most doorways like this use a bit stone on top or are curved to support the forces.
Decided to move to the alternative Half Sphere dome since it just feels alot better than a random huge long rock clunk, I'm thinking of moving forward from here creating some signage - Starting to consider the theme of a Tavern entrance, props could include kegs, mugs, lanterns but we will see! Still have a lot of work to do to the top half of the design now.
Nice progress, definitely think the round door works better than before, has a much more interesting silhouette. The tarven idea sounds cool. Looking forward to seeing what you do with that empty semi circle area
Been quite a while since I've updated this WIP since I just moved Country, its been quite a journey but I've managed to retopo and burn some maps, il be adding more assets and getting a feel for the composition while I add foliage and then move onto texturing and lighting, long way to go yet
Little bit of an update, started to add more stylized foliage and texture some of the sections of the door, still going to do another pass over the rocks and parts of the door, ton more foliage I have ready to import and might mess around with some decals or add some more moss to other sections
Another update on where I'm at, still looking to go over and improve the textures in some areas, getting some weird light artifacting through the doors which I need to try and figure out. Going to darken the base of the ground to be alot more lush and add more green to it.
You know, I wouldn't be too worried about the light artifacts in the door. Maybe correct a few of them, but a few areas where light shines through the planks makes the door look like it has imperfections. It's looking great btw.

Looking good. I kind of like the light coming through the wood panels on the right door. Not sure if that would actually happen but I think it looks cool.
The foliage, wood and metal read fine. But the stones and flooring read like blank white canvas. As a modeling piece this is really good, but I really recommend another texture pass because this is looking really promising as a full diorama.
The way the rope stump is falling in the bottom left makes the scene looks like its in outer space or something Where is it falling to? Lol. I'm just nitpicking now.
I think it's very impressive how much this scene has improved from the first post. Always cool to see threads like this. Well done!

Hahahaha, yeah wasn't quite sure what I was thinking with that part of the scene, I think I just wanted things to seem more dramatic XD.
