There really aren't any highlights on the diffuse map and because of this the metal isnt reading as metal. It seems that as a whole the diffuse is missing some lighting information and detailing. Rock in some bolts/rust/discoloration to aid its readability. Possibly think about a purple glow highlighting the tan outline…
Valilas that would be spot on for a mini-tut. Tweaked the foot and leg as you showed. Im going to make a hard line running up the shin flare thing to define it from the rest of the mesh more. Thickened it all out, and re-did alot of mesh that would othwise be a issue later on. Im leaving the back plate on the leg sticking…
pappete & Alphavader: Thanks guys!! but please no Vader fights :) woogity: Thanks for the thoughts man. I'm not doing this like one of the current in game versions, just trying to kinda capture the style. Cheers dude. So I've done the retopo and some bakes. It's currently sitting at 10505 tris and I'm planning on adding…
Thanks again crazy fool. I haven't implemented some of the armor scale suggestions, but I will, I'm just trying to finish getting the base pieces of the armor all done and in zbrush before I start fixing all the proportion and silhouette errors. More work done. Approaching the point where I have the base meshes of all the…
Thanks guys - much appreciated - Id be more than happy to post a bit of a mini tut in a day or two, its a simple process realy - model it clean and unborked, morph target it then go crazy smashing it to pieces using different layers, ( well beyond what we see here) then pull it back into shape using morph brushes - Ill try…
Rendering it as geometry would speed up the rendering time, but kill the scene file. You could use proxy objects or Xrefs so you're working with a low poly object but rendering the high, or just bake it down and fake all the lighting so the low poly works. I would probably model it out, bake it down to simple geometry with…
Wow! Thanks for the nice comments :) I have to admit it isn't my first attempt on handpainting something. But I do think it is my best result so far. However when looking at it myself, I think it lacks some bigger forms and is a bit too noisy here and there. I read the handpainted texture tutorial in 'Vertex', found on…
Hey [HP]! Thanks for the response. I added your category ideas to my list. :) Yeah i guess most artist are working on their own library and objects to help them on their projects. I think this might appeal to people that are just starting. Anyway Ill see as I go what Ill do. Thanks again and good luck with your Eat3d…
The complex fracture one is a bit too complex (and horribly unoptimized) to do a quick write up on. Granite and PaperTearMarble are a lot more simle. Here is a mini-tut on how I made the Granite. I'll do the paper tear marble one later. http://janvanderweg.com/Substance/Granite/Granite.html Usage example: Follow the…
It looks good but I suggest tossing in some color varriations like, some very light hints of green. Try adding grease marks and stains, weapons need to be kept lubed to work correctly. Think about powder blow back and what that would do to the finish of the gun around the tip of the barrel and where the shells eject. Also…
