Finally getting the clothes set up in Character Creator now. The skinning didn't transfer very well to my clothing so I'll end up re-skinning everything manually unfortunately, which is what I would have loved to spent the least amount of time on. I'm also running into a problem where I'm unable to replace the mesh in…
Thanks Brandon! So far in my portfolio I primarily have high poly stuff for film. I'm pretty satisfied with most of the stuff there, so I'm going to be making a fair amount of game models and the occasional high res environment render for a while. Right now I'm working on this great concept by Baldi Konjin I also just…
You've got some really nicely presented models but your final texture/render is letting you down a fair amount. For one, remove the JJ Abrams lens flare, it's kinda gaudy. Your grunge map seems to be fairly similar across the whole object though, being similar on the blade as well as the blue handle, looking at the…
To an individual, sure a software license is expensive. To a company that buys in bulk, it's a very small price of doing business. They probably get a pretty big discount for the amount of seats they buy. The people they hire know how to use autodesk software, and for the most part enjoy to use that software vs blender. I…
oooooh interesting... So something you could do to avoid the harsh highlight directly below his "head", would be to duplicate the bottom sphere and scale it outward a tiny amount. give it a completely black material with no reflections at all, and then alpha it so that it creates a false permanent shadow at the top of the…
Hi Nick, firstly a comment on your personal site, I think you should get rid of graphics such as bevels, grid background etc. and let the eye focus on your work. For instance the artstation site is simple but to the point. On the work itself, the first thing I'd focus on improving would be your textures, as they tend to…
Just so you know, I can't see any of your images. Make sure you're hosting them on a site that can handle a high amount of traffic on your images, like imgur or imgbox, then ensure you're embedding them correctly. That said, you can also embed images right to the forum by dragging an image from your files onto a text box…
I did a test, and upping the filter size in maya transfer maps fixes the issue. AA means anti aliasing, which didn't make as much of a difference in Maya for this issue as upping the filter amount did. I don't know of any setting like that in xNormal, but upping the anti aliasing helped a bit, and you could also bake at a…
Crazy lookin model man, but overall looks good. Polygon Count: Portfolio wise it's best to keep only what you and make sure it looks good first then start cutting back. Uving: A tricky thing that is, get the least amount of warpingand in a way that the space used is optimized and the textures apply appropriately. Normal…
The dimensions shouldn't matter, just the amount the mesh is offset. In this image the pink lines should all be the same length, because they are drawn from one part of a brick mesh, to the exact same spot on their instanced counterpart. This length should be the width of the plane you are baking the high poly down to (if…
