love the style, especially the suit. Not sure if its the goatee underneath the mouth or what, but it looks like the chin really goes back into the head too much before the lips.
well i took the head in mudbox and sculpted a bit, but did not like the look it kept being a bit too mushy for me, so i did a quick retop of what i had sculpted using 3dcoat and put it in max and went from there using max for the poly modeling, head is done, and chest piece is in progress
man, this thing keeps getting better and better. Good job mate.
The front part of the hair doo seems to get lost in the brown a bit though, I'd say bring that out a bit more. Goatee ftw!
Crits:
Fingers are looking a little thin for being inside of gloves, kind of star-fishy, like sub-d smoothed and relaxed things a little too much.
I think I see a few gaps in the armor?
I gotta agree on the fingers, but I know you're no where near done with him, so it's not a big deal right now. His crotchural region feels too low, especially with the hip placement that is exaggerated by his armor. I would give him more prominent cheek bones. His face needs to really stand out here to add to not only the existing persona, but also the general hero character stature. The style you are using is just so awesome! I can not wait to see more of your progression because it is totally killer right now! Oh, and make sure you dial in those boots with some nice crisp edges and solid mass. Give him some weight to carry that heavy suit!
the hands look like that cause its just the base mesh smoothed, i have not got around to adding the edges to make them fill out like they should, and the chest is still in progress also so there is some gaps
yup e-freak, talons model is what inspired me to make this in the first place over a year ago,
i like his model and that concept but i do not think it is really in the style of team fortress, i'm trying to do what i see as tf2 styled, and i don't see any need to make his crotch orange, thats just against the costume design of freeman,
it was a conscious choice to make his hair long, i experimented briefly with the little spikes, but in the simple geo style i was wanting it just looked too much like a pointy helmet so i decided to let him grow it out a bit,
but looking back over that image, i may go in and give it another try
I remember Talons model. I think its a good idea to stick with what you have, sans orange cod piece. Technically I think the darker piece he currently sports is armored, just not painted orange, maybe its a more flexible material? Maybe its like a bomb squad defusing suit?
I think it will be different enough if you apply slightly different materials to the soft connecting under suit pieces and the harder armored bomb squad-ish pieces... if any of that makes sense...
cool shit, love the pose, fix those hands and get the HL symbol on him!
the under will be a kinda mesh material, and the black crotch piece, more of a black metal / plastic, the orange will be the same material but painted orange / red / blue and the light grey a unpainted metal
IMO already this > Talon's. Not to knock his, but its just rendered in-game (either in Source or mimicked) and that's about it for its relationship to the TF2 style.
Yours feels a lot like Gordon and TF2... combined. *cue dramatic music*
working on short spikeyer hair, and hands, and side pouches, i took some wireframe shots in game of the char hands i tried to export one out to look at with dx ripper, but aparently it does not like working thru steam so i just used the model viewer as a guide,
the hair i'm not sure about but going to tweak it a bit more, and the side pouches are just roughed in
love it so far but like the longer hair more
i'd just work on the silhouette of the longer hairs and make it a bit sharper here and there, new one doesn't look like a haircut anymore
OK i believe the high poly is final, i got a hair that i like i think i will do the low poly retopo after work today,, maybe even get normal maps by tonite

I want to see this happen!
Cool stuff.
still pretty early in the mudboxin, hard to fight myself from adding too many details, and keeping it smooth
You should make a bunch of the characters in this style!

OR ELSE!!

Love this peice so far, and would love to see Gordon fully textured.

The only criticism that I can give you is that Freeman's hair isn't actually that long and is able to stand upright in any depiction.
