really!? how come they would put him on the page! I'm so disappointed! lol.. I'v been working at a concept for 2 days now!
Hahah I was wondering why nobody picked him! i thought i was all original! Good thing i stumble upon your page... i was waiting for a more completed concept before submitting... :C
Maybe I should tell you how I choose my character.
I tried Dota 2 few weeks only before the contest went in, and I played a bit long time ago when it was only a mode. But I have to confess I wasn't and still am not a lore fanatic.
So when the contest start even I had played few games, I didn't know most of the heroes of the list, this end up with me switching to the other page and choosing a hero wich wasn't in the list (silly me). After finally picking a hero from his thumbnail and verifying that this on was on the list, I read the lore of the character and brainstormed few ideas.
I started and show the WIP of my work to the few persons I know who play Dota since the early beta. And I never get some comments saying that my set was inapropriate.
But the lore on the page of my character never say "YOU STUPID, IF YOU WANT TO MAKE SOMETHING WITH POTION DON'T CHOOSE THIS HERO, OR WE WILL UNLEASH ON YOU OUR LORE FANATIC ARMIE"
So indeed this may not be the best hero for something with potion, and I humbly apologize for not knowing the lore of every last character of this game that have around 100 heroes.
If I have time to do another set after this one, I will try to spend more time on my research.
At my turn I would like to ask you a question. As you seems to be quite a lore lover, and did an account to check if people were respectuous of the Dota universe. Why don't you make a page for polycount artist with a fast resume of what is the essence of each of the heroes ?
Is the listing of all the heroes, currently 92 in total.
Most heroes only have a paragraph for their lore, some a whooping two paragraphs.
That can be quite a daunting read for some, but it's quite entertaining.
On a side note, I've always wondered how some book to movie adaptions turn out so bad.
After reading your post, now I think I understand.
Thanks and best of luck in the competition.
he uses his weapons to shoot magical discs. It doesnt make any sense at all to have him shoot magical discs from a spoon and a bottle. (Animation would also look silly since he holds the two sticks up most of the time)
Note that I'm not saying somethings wrong with the concept, just that it's not going to work/make sense since these are his weapons.
@ Lennyagony and JGcount : Thanks for the kind word
@ Beezow : Quite a good point. I will check again what move the shaman have and if it make no sense I will replace the two weapon for something that fit better. (If it's the case I will probably put the bottle in the belt objects) Thanks for the feedback.
So after beezow's comment I had to rethink a bit my weapon concept.
As it didn't really make sense to shoot magic from a spoon.
So he needed at least one weapon (after watching the moves I think the off hand weapon can still not necessarly be strictly just a weapon).
So I made a wand and for fitting with my theme it will get a magic illuminescent potion, and use the shape of the snake to be close to the character last power.
looks way better now, didn't like the weapons in the first concept, but that is a lot better.
About the book you designed, some dota lore for you. There is a demon language, but Shadow Shaman doesn't use it. He however much like Witch Doctor uses some weird language Examples being:
Moto Keyeyanna yaya, toyka yameh.
Neia teia an da ka!
Maybe incoperate that on the book cover instead of the demon head? Or you could hint at his story: Born in the Bleeding Hills, Rhasta was just a starving youngling when picked up by a travelling con-man. For two pins of copper, the old con-man would tell your fortune. For three, hed castrate your pig, for five, hed circumcise your sons. For a good meal, hed don his shaman garb, read from his ancient books, and lay a curse upon your enemies. His strange new youngling, part hill trowle, part something else, worked as assistant and lent an air of the exotic to the con-mans trade.
Always one step ahead of cheated customers, one town ahead of a pursuing patronage, the two trekked across the blighted lands until one day the con-man realized that the little youngling could actually do what he only pretended at. His ward had a gifta gift that customers valued. And so the youngling Rhasta was thrust before the crowds, and the trade-name Shadow Shaman was born. The two continued from town to town, conjuring for money as Shadow Shamans reputation grew. Eventually, the pairs duplicitous past caught up with them, and they were ambushed by a mob of swindled ex-clients. The con-man was slain, and for the first time, Rhasta used his powers for darkness, massacring the attackers. He buried his beloved master, and now uses his powers to destroy any who would seek to do him harm.
So a refrence to the con-man or just some coins on the cover, because they tricked people and the short story on what the con-man did when you gave him one/three/... coins?
Thanks Jindor, I quite like your idea to bring the coin on the book and will probably modify it in this direction. And for the weird language that Rhasta and the witch doctor speak do you know if Valve did a writing form of it, or if some object could have some of this language in writing form.
Unfortunatley the dota 2 lore isn't really far developed at this point of time. So this and some lines of Witch doctor that sound similar are really the only ones and there are no hints on how it developed or if there is any writing of it
As there is no writing of the language shadow shaman uses I took the liberty of keeping the runes I put on the book in the first place. And I replaced the skull by a coin as the ones shadow shaman originally have on his belt. Thanks again Jindor for your feedback.
@ENODMI : True, I worry a bit about what it will look like once in game.
I'm starting to put my models in the game and I was wondering if it's possible to move or delete the FX attached to the weapon ?
If anyone could help me it would be much appreciaed.
Nope you must request removal for your entry/workshop items of the FX by messaging Valve or putting some kind of note in your submitted item from what I have heard anyway.
Nice work, hope the bakes turned out well, looking forward to color versions of these items when ever you pimp them.

crap
So I guess I come back soon with another idea
Hahah I was wondering why nobody picked him! i thought i was all original! Good thing i stumble upon your page... i was waiting for a more completed concept before submitting... :C
Nature's Prophet already has too many item sets. Always check this page for heroes may or may not do.
my badass concept
Here is the progress so far on the hat.
Here is a big bottle of potion that will be used as off hand weapon
Witch Doctor is the hero who's flings his cask around at people.
So you decide to do this instead to nature's profit/shadow shaman.
Why? Please reread the rules next time, here is a link to the heroes mentioned in this thread.
http://www.dota2.com/workshop/requirements/Alchemist
Constantly concocting potions.
http://www.dota2.com/workshop/requirements/Witch_Doctor
Uses his cask to paralyze his enemies.
or
http://www.dota2.com/workshop/requirements/Shadow_Shaman
Raised by a con man pretending to do magic
http://www.dota2.com/workshop/requirements/Natures_Prophet
Protector of the forest.
Why did you go with the ones that have no relation to potions at all?
Maybe I should tell you how I choose my character.

So here is the WIP, I will pass it soon in zbrush
Here is the High Res Model.
The spam of zbrush model will soon finish as the Zjob is nearly over.
Hope you like it
Can't wait to see that backpack all finished

Yeah I love small details in games
