That looks very nice. Just out of curiosity: why did you chose to make the block the lion sits on welded together with the lion, instead of just making it a single box to put below everything? Making it a block would save about 100 triangles.
Also, How did you get max to display both vertex color and materials ? I can't get it to work (When I want to display vertex colors,textures disapear), could you post a breakdown of the scene in max if you have some time ?

Love the style, the paint is so clean and readable. I also like the vertex bake, it adds a lot to the atmosphere.
Would you mind giving us a little insight into the texture creation process, did you use zbrush or just straight painting?
I'm kind of struggling with my painting at the moment
