Yeah I'mma do another pass on that front part, it's all one peice too, I need to make it look a bit better in general I'm not happy with it but it was very late. I am overall some what happyish (loosely using that word) with the model so far but I know it could be much better. I feel like my problem is i dont finsh stuff because It's not good enough, like this one, but I'm going to finish it and I am fairly confident when it's all complete it will be passable.
Some progress cause I had some time today, doing a different approach for the top part, hard to see it but whatever, planning out the rest and made some fixes, redid some parts, still have some edges to clean up, I think I'm going to stop being so impatient and do shit the right way to save myself headache.
Also, the concept does look quite angular on the bits of the grip that the thumb would rest in, but for the sake of "comfort" i think that area should be curved. It would be really uncomfortable to hold. It would also add some nice relief from all the angles and planar surfaces.
Looking good dude. Tackle some of them curved bits ! I wanna see halo 9 featuring 15 iterations of turbo smooth collapsed to hand define the micro surface.
it is slightly curved, even on the source model it is, I was playing with the idea of making it really curvy but I wasnt liking it. It's a possibility though
Started re-making the outer shell today and I am surprised with it considering I made each part separate and they all lined up, made me feel special inside. Still a lot to do but hopefully wrap it up next weekend if time permits. Then low and textures possibly, we'll see, I really would love to set this up in ue4, maybe make some particle effects and some sweet shaders for the covenant metal as well as for the glowing bits and all that shit.
lmao you're taking all the things from me...for anybody who couldn't tell though, it was pretty neat to watch alex actually model in the numbers/text and dial text. Definitely something i'll be incorporating someday. Hahah my master plan to slowly sell everything i own to you has commenced >:)
Decided to do some more rendering cause I can, hoping to finish the majorshapes mostly todayish do a detail pass in zbrush and add floaters n shit. I did a paintover and feel I have a strong direction as well. I did some more to the model after this and hope to finish today, if not tomorrow. I have some cool shit planned, just hope I don't over detail it.
Daaamn homie, those renders look dope. Nice and easy to see your details. I can't wait to see your detail pass, especially for the scope. I'm digging the subtle details you have going through the middle portion in particular. The only crit I see so far is a stupid one, and that's your edges look hella sharp on that top rear most purple piece. It sticks out to my eyes since the rest of it is more round. Either way, awesome work man, keep it up!
That scope looks great! Is there actually a benefit to modeling in the numbers? I would have figured that just manually adding them to the normal map should look the same at that distance.

I did it for fun because I never planned to make a game asset. I don't have the file anymore because i formatted the laptop after I bought it and didn't see that file as worth enough to save. I'll post some wires of the carbine. I'm going to zbrush some shit on the main panels so you wont see them much longer. For the text it takes 2 minutes to do.
Scott homer had a tut but i cant find it, basically make text in max with thickness, then convert it to pro-booleans. Go into the advanced settings, check make quadrilateral and then when you pick the object to boolean just make a sphere or something and pick that. Hard to explain in text but simple to do.ate a pizza I feel like shit. Youre not the boss of me.
Learned an absurd amount and actually finished something so I'm feeling happy with that. Some things i might re-render like making the flakes smaller so the are not all squares but whatever. May or may not make a game asset as I have some other shit to work on next. Rendered in keyshot. I did the final details and shit in zbrush mostly to save time and to learn so more about that.
ty guys I am probably going to be making some vehicles. Nothing supr cool but I'll find a way. I'm going to be designing them too so i should learn a lot
nice work mate, did you use the vraycar paint ? if u used that try to change the flake mapping type to triplanar cuz the flakes are to big right now..., great job.

Thanks man, and no this is keyshot, I did make them too big, I have some newer renders I fixed this with but I didn't upload them:D I noticed it when I was rendering but it was like 10 am and i dont know what i was thinking being okay with it.
Working on a blockout for another scene, might make a thread. Imma do some painovers and this stuff is all quick wip shit i did yesterday to get a feel, in the end you'll be in a playable space in the mid section of the building and such. Plan to work a lot into this once I get going but before I do any art I'mma make some texture sheets to get started with on the exterior. The other asteroid is going to have a base too but it's just in the distance for continuity and interest. Like I said this is just my rough blockout and will make more sense as stuff comes together.

Where's the rest of your blockout?

Whatchu render in?
handplane 3d...
nah keyshat
Need wires STAT.
That purple mat gets me hard.
Beautiful. Can we see some wireframes? I'd love to know how you modeled in the text.

IDK if you remember me, but you really helped me out with some crit for my Arkham Origins Gun. Just wanted to be available if you needed feedback.
thanks again man! Hope all is well with you.
