Beginner looking for relevant tutorials on high poly modeling

Hello,

I am an art student from the UK - I mainly focus on character, asset, and environment concept art.
I have recently realised the advantage of introducing some 3D modeling competency into my skillset, and have begun the process of learning how to use Google SketchUp and AutoDesk Maya.
At the moment my expertise in the field is pretty limited, and I want to improve. I have attached an example of my recent work so you can see where I'm at.

I checked the the following threads:

http://polycount.com/discussion/137585/gumroad-tutorials-list/p1
http://polycount.com/discussion/161627/free-knowledge

As-per the newbies thread, but the tutorials weren't quite what I was looking for, and it was hard to discern what was what.

Essentially, I am looking for an introduction to High-Poly Modeling. I have googled a fair bit of stuff, but it was all very specific, and fairly little of the information I could find came with recommendations or warnings as to the quality of content.

Is there anything out there you wished you had access to when you were learning or coming up?

(edit: I should mention, as a student, I don't have a lot of money to invest in tutorials. I'm happy to pay a few quid here and there, but mostly I'm looking for free or low-priced content)
