Cubemap generation problem - studio max

So I've been trying to generate cubemaps inside max using either of the two methods listed on the wiki ( metal Bump9 / Reflect Refract map) but everytime I try to do a pick object and create, nothing gets done. I get a little picking icon on my mouse pointer, but I can't seem to select anything in the scene. I've tried picking a camera, a point helper, a simple piece of geo, and nothing gets picked. I tried to do a select from scene but that obviously just selects the object and not link it to the shader for the cubemap creation.
At a loss...:shifty: Anyone has a clue what i'm doing wrong? Thanks fellow counters!
