This is a team personal project made by Jar3d and Owl, but a few other guys are giving some support. We will call them out as some of their stuff gets posted.
Anyways, we're going for a stylized, all hand painted environment built in UDK. Here is our progress.
That's some gorgeous texture work and on the walkways in particular.
And the concept looks great - I love viking stuff : p
One thing though, I'm wondering if perhaps the ground is a bit too flat. Would be nice to see some uneven ground and/or some stylized rocks and ground pieces etc.
@Caldria, Much thanks for the feedback. This is a UDK learning experience for Owl and myself. I agree about the ground being flat. We have to get some terrain or landscape in there soon. Our hangup is trying to figure out height map blending on the udk landscape.

I know that it is possible to get blending on the new landscape system but I haven't found an in depth walkthrough of the shader for it and I know it's not the same as the mesh paint one. It might just be easier to create the terrain in Max depending on how large it will be.
Anyway, looking boss so far. If the rest of the building turns out as nice as that wooden walkway then it will be quite a fancy scene.
Looking pretty sweet guys! I'm liking the textures and stuff, but those lanterns are awesome! Just super fun feeling, make sure to keep that throughout the rest of the project!
I know it has already been mentioned, but I thought it would be worth saying that floors/roads/paths are never flat as a general rule of thumb for designing believable environments - something that is easily overlooked
@Shrew81 - Thanks man! We miss ya here. We should have started this when you were here! Ya, we are deff going to do our props in that kinda fun chunky style.
@Darkleopard - haha... That's GOOD! We have quite a few ref images from How to Train Your Dragon in our Inspiro folder.
Anyways, we will post more soon, when we have some more cool stuff to show!
