Simply put.. Boolean in Maya sucks.
Too much rules and things to watch out for. Wont work properly for me on anything that isnt a simple model.

That what maya couldn't boolean I easily did in another modelling app.
Anyway my question; Do you guys now a plugin for Maya that does booleans properly?

Generally tend to just, not use Boolean, there are ways of doing things without boolean that will be a lot better in the long run.

It can be useful for initial blocking out and getting shapes quickly when you're just concept modeling, but by and large the boolean in Maya is not useful for actual work.

I've never heard of any plugins that do a better job either.

booleans in any of maya, max, xsi aren't that useful. But if you still want to try using boolean what I would do is:

    - Make sure your both meshes are closed, capped.
    - Make sure the mesh is not so dense
    - Make sure you "clean" the mesh before doing so
    - If your mesh is not closed, you can cap it and open after boolean.

I did have to use it for some env work. And I still use it sometimes for blockout.
