Hi, my name is Catalin and I'm new to 3ds max.
The problem I am confronting at the moment is easy to overcome, but because off my worthless familiarity off this program I need your help.
In the first picture you will find the model that I want to make and a failed attempt from the start.

Second picture contains my wire-frame.

And for this last picture I want to know how can I inset my polygon face whit out getting the edges in a bundle. The light source contains a more inner bevel (if it try to bevel it inwards, same thing happens), should I cut inside off it whit a spline reference drawing?

What step’s should I take to obtain the light device form, is my current endeavor following a correct approach ?

I see you are new to polycount, welcome. Sadly no one responded to your question.

First off, everybody is on here answering questions because they are passionate about game art and no one likes to click on a picture link. embed the image in the post.

What you need to do is read up on subobject modeling. Without a good understanding of this you will be stuck at every little step along the way.
Read up, watch many tutorials. Some of the best tutorials that helped me in the beginning were ones that showed everything from start to finish.

    Try this site http://cg.tutsplus.com/

and these cost money but are really good when you start making next gen assets

Block out all the planes first (as if you were building a simple low poly model from the concept), then add the double edges for subdivision. That's about it.
