Inset works correctly now and there is also a more advanced cut tool similar to NEX. There's some other things like new extrude options but I'm not a core Maya user so it's best to try out the demo.
Just got Maya 2012 at work today. It's very much the same in terms of modeling. I still prefer Max to model in, but I've gotten so fast in Maya it's almost a moot point.
lol @ spacemonkey... so true... they live by their words. I'm surprised there aren't more modeling packs out there for sale that actually make this thing usable.
Last time I had a meeting with Autodesk they informed me that modeling tools weren't a focus for Maya development.
this may be true for 2012 as i know from being on the beta that they were mainly focusing on animation improvements and UI elements, although there were some modeling tools improvements made in 2012, i don't think they meant "weren't a focus" ever...just for this release.
i guess its a common thing they do, and for each release focus on one particular aspect of maya to improve.

Maya never had an inset tool (extrude offset doesn't count), but an inset script came out recently.
My mistake in using the word 'inset', but offset is 2012 now works exactly as inset in Max or XSI does.

I don't get it.
yeah. a very welcome ' fix ' that. so why didn't those dicks apply the same logic to Extrude while they were at it. . .
