Horrible image compression everywhere!!

I'm not sure where else to ask this, but for some reason i'm noticing horrible compression at every website i go to as of today... at first i thought it was just my website going screwy but now i'm noticing it everywhere.
I'm using firefox and opera and both have different forms of compression

Could this be something to do with my ISP?
i'm at a dead end here guys, any input would be great

This is just an idea, but in Opera, check that you're not using their option where all trafic goes through them for extra speed. If your internet's slow, maybe this is automatically re-compressing images to be faster to download.
Firefox doesn't do this by default as far as I'm aware, so that's strange... Try restarting without extensions (add -p to the shortcut's location and make a new profile) and check if it still does it.

Are you using a new computer? I've noticed this if the graphics card is outright terrible.

Same computer i've been using for the last 4 years, no problems up until this really...

gonna keep messing around, see what i can come up with, waiting for a callback from my isp

What OS? Have you done any updates lately? Windows 7 just released SP1, and while I don't have an issue like you've mentioned, it could have affected your computer differently.

Is it just images? Do the menus and other items look clear?

i'm still running XP until i do a system upgrade that'l take advantage of a new OS, so i dont think thats it

it seems to be just images, however if i save them and view offline then it looks fine

Clear your cache on both browsers maybe. Have you checked with IE?

Maybe you accidentally zoomed in/out (with ctrl+mousescrolling) a bit and the images are blurry because of that?

Both browsers have it though, so that would be strange.

Yes, a screenshot and a link for comparison with our own browser view.

My vote, too, is that an accelerator is causing it. Spent a few hours on IRC once, where one guy claimed the other had to fix some striping in his new painting.. until we realized the artefacts were caused from the accelerator.
