I have downloaded Maya for students on Autodesk's website but I also want 3ds Max 2011 as well. All I have seen on there is 3ds Max Design. Is it the same thing as 3ds Max?
The Core Systems are the same, but the Design Version is targeted for working with CAD data.It has some better interoperability with AutoCAD,Civil 3D and stuff.
It also has some better lightning simulation and analysis tools which are more suited for architects,civil engineers.
One downfall is that the 3dsmax SDK is not supported by design(at least that i know of)
The "default" 3dsmax is more suited for games,film and television.
But others then that you can do the same with both of them.
What i don´t get is that you only see the design version, you should see the default one too
