Learning Max graphite tools

I'm very proficient in Maya from school, but I decided to learn max while working on a new model.

Unfortunately, I keep running into weird things that are holding me up. Namely, the graphite tools, and specifically the freeform tools. I wanted to learn all these new tools, since coming off maya the modeling efficiency is kind of low.

I suppose I should just reuse this thread in case I have future questions, but my current question is:

How do I stop the Freeform tools from snapping "Draw On" something, whether it's the grid, shape, or selection? I've seen videos of people using the old polyboost tools, and even the DVD I'm learning from right now shows people using it to very quickly pull out edges to extrude them, but when I try the extend tool it keeps doing weird stuff due to the snapping, which I can't find how to turn off.

Edit: Nevermind, found my own answer, just hold down Alt to move objects in screen space.
