Maya remember folder history after restart

In Maya when you go to import/export/open/load textures, you have a folder history. But unlike Max (and I'm sure others) it clears it when you restart Maya. How do I turn this off, it's annoying as hell.

I want to open maya, go to open file, and have a list of the latest folders I've been in, in my last maya session. Is that possible to enable?

I don't think so, the file browsers in Maya have always annoyed me, especially when coming from Max, which has a pretty nice system.

However I think they overhauled it in Maya 2011 so it might be better now - what version are you on?

I've always compensated with folder shortcuts to areas in my projects folder.

It's the reason I installed directfolders (from the useful app thread)... I think it's fixed in 2011, but I'm not sure, i didn't use maya in a long time.

poop, maya's folder browsing is shit compared to max. I installed this program so I can remap the default windows file browse dialog super helpful.

@malcom, on vista/seven you can jsut do that by dropping shortcuts to favorites.

BeatKitano, that only works in windows explorer. Maya and other apps like photoshop don't use windows explorer when you click file open, total oversight on microsoft's part in my opinion. I'm on windows 7 at home and at work.

That's not Microsoft's fault. It's Autodesk (or Alias|Wavefront, or Discreet, or whoever wrote the apps in the first place). They chose not to use OS-native dialogs, and wrote their own. Better in some cases but harder to update, and non-standard.

Maya 2011 now has an option to switch between the OS native dialog, and the custom Maya dialog, if I remember right.

Yep, that's what i was talking about with 2011 & directfolders. I didn't about this software before 2011 got release, so excuse me if it can't work on previous versions.

And for explorer process + favorites, i remeeber using it with zbrush but not maya indeed.

The 2011 file dialogue is still shit, TGA's, EXR's and other industry standard formats are not supported in the thumbnail preview.
