hey guys for the past few days ive had what i call artistsblock. idont know what to draw every single idea that pops up seems dumb or unproductive. :poly127:
When i get this i usually jump into a collaborative project. do some mod work or something. having people to bounce ideas off of, and a little pressure to achieve works wonders.
when this happens to me I find that trying to force myself to make any art only makes things worse, so I agree with the take a break method, watch some movies, play some games, do what Virtuosic said then whip out your inspiration folder, put some music on and scroll the pics, THEN once you feel you are ready, do some art stuffs
Good Art doesnt come first hand you know. Even the epic artists who have been in this business for ages take alot of time (probebly a week) to work on their art until they call it a DONE.
So my suggestion to you is, draw a rough concept at first and spend time on it. Even if it looks dumb. The rough sketch will help you get the ideas on how to improve your art in many ways.
EDIT: I agree with low odor. Do that and you may succeed. In the addition of start smoking weed and drinking it makes you see through time and get moar ideas for your artzz!! <.<
I'll second odor's thoughts, and also add my own remedy for blocks.. Do something completely passive. When I repeatedly hit my head against a wall, not getting anywhere creatively, I just drop it for a while and pick a TV-show that I've been interested in but never gotten around to watching, and have a bit of a marathon over a weekend.
This tends to reboot my brain from the mental equivalent of over-training. Or something.. :P
East is onto something. Remove yourself from what you're doing for a while and do something completely unrelated. It'll reset your noggin so you can get back to work.
What helps me with such blockages, is not to think too much about how something should look like.
doodle a bit with forms, do quick sketches and play with forms.
like "let it happen" but dont "mindfuck" it
if it looks cool, build something on it. if not fuck it its just a doodle.
Yeah I agree with that one, Rumkugel. Since I do "final art" at work 8+ hours a day it's really nice to sometimes just grab a sketchpad and doodle away with ink (to escape the comfort zone of Ctrl-Z). To be honest, what mostly comes from this are new and disgusting designs of cocks on post-it notes that I put on my colleages' monitors and under their computer mice during lunch breaks, but it is different from what I normally do and helps
Take a break from everything. Seriously, no games, no computer, nothing. Go somewhere you haven't been before, It doesn't need to be far, just new. Remove yourself from outside influence. Don't try to get ideas. Just forget everything.
Try a bit of programming, maybe for 1 week, with the idea to make your own game. Its a completely different area of games, but it kind of helps to break away from the art side of things.
Relax, watch your favorite movie/listen to your favorite album, don't think about art or cool concepts, hang out with friends, try to have some fun and then just doodle, with no goal in mind.
yea I totally agree with doing something else, Ive constantly been feeling guilty about not working on my portfolio lateley but to be honest after doing it all day at work I dont have the energy/drive to put in a bunch of time at home.
so instead of feeling guilty about it ive decided not to worry about it for a month and just do things like play games, hang out with friends and stuff. forcing it leads to a downward spiral of negativity for me.

Yeah some life drawing classes might help.
