[Maya] ~ Symmetrize, selecting edge as symmetry centre doesn't work

I'm trying to symmetrize some UVs through the specific tool (Symmetrize) in the UV editor.
I want to set the symmetry axis by clicking on a central edge.

At first it worked like a charm, I managed to select the edge and the axis would move accordingly.
But then, at some point, it stopped responding.

What I do:
.: Open the UV editor
:. Open [Tools] menu and select "Symmetrize"
.: A message fades in on the screen and tells me to select an edge that is going to work as a reference for the placement of the symmetry axis
:. I click on the edge I want to use as a reference
....and here it's where I get stuck, because the axis doesnt move an inch from where I last placed it.
I, of course, can still move it manually, but I'm that kind of nitpicky and pedantic person you'd never want as a colleague;  I want things to work as intended.

What could've I done wrong, that the selection of an edge doesnt work as expected anymore? Maybe I misunderstood the mechanics of this function?
I've also checked some videos here and there, but they all make it look like a two-clicks procedure. I've followed all the (intellegible, given the improbable amount of indian youtubers) instructions, but it keeps not responding as depicted.
I'll appreciate any help you can give me.

Thank you.
