Few weeks ago I finished the first section of the course "3D art pipeline" assignment was still life scene, first project completed in maya using renderman for the output.
Just as a word of warning, just because artwork passes for a grade doesn't necessarily mean it's good enough for a portfolio. Doesn't mean you have to make this particular piece the one, but for most HW assignments, historically just the competent ones aren't portfolio worthy. The good thing is there's opportunity to improve the pieces after school hours.
