Hey! Back with more progress. I'm currently blocking out her costume and playing with the silvery decorative designs. Feedback and critique would be appreciated!
Hey! more screenshots! This time I've blocked in her hair. I also had some feedback on her face being a little too puffy and childish. There were also some proportion issues with her legs. So, I've shortened them a bit. I also shaved down her cheeks, accentuated her jawline, and sharpened her cheek bone to give her an older, more mature look. It's super subtle but I think it does the trick. More costume and hair work to come!
The biggest issue with the face is that it lacks femininity. The childish/puffiness was helping before, or rather, was hiding this issue. Now you've removed that, the jawline is quite shallow and sharp, particularly at the back. This needs softening and the angle needs adjusting. Her nose is also quite blocky and her eyes are a little too small and too far apart.
This looks pretty good so far! The face looks feminine enough to me, the ears are way too big though, although I guess it doesn't really matter since they'll be covered by the hair. It might be useful to start sculpting the hair from a single big shape instead, to keep it easier to control to get the primary forms right, and then maybe divide it later in the detailing phase. I'm interested in seeing where this goes!
@almighty_gir Thanks for the specifics. It really helped. I went back and adjusted her face a bit and added a some of her cheek fat and changed up the angle of her jaw line to be a smoother. I also increased the size of her eyes and moved them closer together just a tad. The change is super subtle. I think I might need go back and make the change a little more obvious. For the nose, can you elaborate a little more when you mean it's "blocky"? Is the bridge too pronounced?
@jpr Thanks! Looking back her ears do feel a bit on the larger size. I went back and shrunk them a bit. It won't really be seen because of her hair, but it helps me frame the rest of her face. Plus it's good practice . I find using tubes with separate polygroups to make the hair gives me some great control because I can see the flow a bit easier. With the Mask by polygroup option, I can easily switch between manipulating individual tubes or the whole hair piece. I'll definitely try out your method next time. I'm down to try out new techniques!
Man that looks bags better. As for the nose, i think i was just thrown off by the full body shot, with the hair it looks very rectangular due to shading.
@ZeroStrike Yup Yup! Nine was a huge inspiration for the piece! I hope I've made her unique enough to stand on her own, but I'm totally down to make changes large and small to make her more interesting and different! Suggestions? I love Haz's work. Big fan. I definitely have a long way to go!
@almighty_gir Thanks, man! glad I'm progressing in the right direction. Now that you mention the nose, I can see how the nose would be off. I'll work to remedy that.
For their body style. But one of the area where I think you can improve is the eyes. The eyes, in this case need to be more in the sexy appeal vs cute. I think this might help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXfuovBSEIU
Hey! been a bit since the last update. Worked on her face a bit more. Reintroduced a bit of her jawline and fiddled with her eyes a bit more. Very subtle, but I hope its a noticeable change. Made some significant changes to her designs. Most notable: her cape and gauntlet. I wanted to break her symmetrical silhouette a bit more. I also thought it would be neat to give her a magical focus for when she's casting or channeling energy. I'm thinking about giving her more knick-knacks like a spellbook or maybe a melee weapon to balance out her gear.
Whew! It's been way too long since I last posted. Between my part-time job and other projects I've finally gotten to texturing Lina.
This is my first attempts in substance painter and PBR in general. Such an awesome program. love it! Been spending a great deal of time getting the skin looking good. Gave her some light make-up. I've been back and forth with her eyes, though. Any tips would be awesome!
I'm back! I haven't been very consistent posting progress on here, but I'm hoping to get better about that. On another note, I just finished this project and you can see more of it in better quality at my Artstation Any C&C would be awesome!

I like how her face looks so far, but I might play around with making her feel a little older; more mature.

I would try and work on the face shape alittle more. I like the face on the right more. I would check out Hazardous character art. https://hazardousarts.deviantart.com/art/Cyber-Chun-Li-Wip-10-204578098

Finally done with sculpting. Moving onto retopo and UV's. Next update I'll have her maps baked and ready for texturing.
