Convert Normal Map to AO?

Hi all,

I've recently started diving into the Quixel Suite for my current project,

http://polycount.com/discussion/191581/sketchbook-zalek4#latest

and I've just finished all the normal details in NDO. I took the project into DDO for an initial pass on textures, and the curvature map didn't seem to behave correctly when using the dynamasks. After some reading up on bakes in DDO, I think it could be because the curvature baked in DDO uses both the normal and ao maps I provided. But, the AO map doesn't have any of the added NDO normal details in it. If I'm not mistaken, this could cause the added normal details to not be "curvatured" correctly.

If that's unclear just let me know.

I'm posting this in Technical Talk since I think it could be a pretty general workflow fix. With the Quixel Suite being so widely used, I must be missing a small piece of the puzzle.

So the ultimate question is:

Is it possible to convert/transfer custom normal map detail to an existing AO map? Maybe there's an app that bakes AO based off normals?

Thanks!

Z

Edit: Just found a NDO2 pdf that mentions a map converter inside NDO itself. Not sure if this is the answer, but I'm looking into it. (Figures I find it right after posting lol).
