Vertex Painting in Blender and ZBrush?

For artists who use vertex painting and have tried Blender and ZBrush. I will like to know your opinion on the two. I am currently using Blender but I am finding painting medium to small details problematic in Blender. I have seen polypaint zbrush videos on youtube. With ZBrush, you can sculpt lots of tiny details and vertex painting with no lags. Blender seems to have issues on the high resolution side since you need a lot of subdivision to have good resolution for vertex painting. I am using the pbvh branch of Blender. The vertex painting is fine but once you move to edit mode or the wireframes are displayed in viewport. The lag makes it problematic to move around.
Opinions?
