[maya] 360 rotation problem

I'm currently animating something that's supposed to spin. Normally, I just put one keyframe on 0 rotation and another on 360 rotation and just loop it, and that works fine, UNTIL I put the controller that's supposed to be rotating into a character set.

As soon as I put it in a character set, it always resets my 360 rotation value to 0 when I keyframe, and it seems to pick the shortest distance to the position I rotate the controller to rather than moving to the value that I input. For instance, if I input 350 degrees, it changes it to -10 instead of rotating the full 350.

I know something similar has to do with the curve interpolation being set to quaternion rather than euler, but I tried changing the curve interpolation to euler in the graph editor and it didn't seem to do anything at all. I'm at a loss here... I have no clue what I'm doing wrong and I've never encountered this problem before.
