Saw this over at CGTalk:
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Changes-to-Rendering-in-3DS-Max-2018.html

"Customers will have access to the Arnold renderer for foreground processing within 3ds Max 2018."

What is meant by "foreground processing"? :/

Foreground / In-Session / In-Product Processing means that you'll be able to launch a render from the 3ds Max UI.

You will NOT be able to start a render from the command line, submit renders to a render farm, or render in the "cloud" without buying additional Arnold licenses.

Also, Mental Ray will no longer be included in 3ds Max, but will be available to download for free from Nvidia. It will have the same Foreground Processing stipulation.

I just recently learned that the design of the built in stereo camera in 3ds Max is THAT awkward that you only are able to render the individual, seperate eyes using Batch/commandline rendering. So with this change a assume we can't render the individual eyes out using Arnold nor with the upcoming Mental Ray solution, which most probably also will loose the batch feature without explicit license...
    GREAT DESIGN  !
