Technical Artist

We’re looking for a talented and passionate technical artist to join The Game Band. You will work closely with our art team, animator, and lead programmer to develop visual features and solve fulfilling technical challenges. You will be a highly-trusted part of a small creative studio, empowered everyday to make things you’re truly proud of.

Responsibilities

  • Develop run-time character animation trees, kinematics, and stylized facial animation

  • Write shaders and materials for environments, characters, and UI

  • Create the assets required for technical-minded art objects, such as animated materials and textures

  • Develop systems for environmental, particle, and lighting effects

  • Write behaviors to create light point-and-click interactions

  • Analyze memory/performance concerns throughout a project's development

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of industry standard game engines (Where Cards Fall is built in Unity)

  • Intermediate programming experience with scripting languages and shading languages. Experience in C# and Unity shaders (Cg, HLSL) is a plus.

  • Strong artistic development skills (texturing, lighting, modeling)

  • A sharp eye for design and aesthetics

  • Experience working on completed / shipped projects

Ideal Extras

  • Currently based in Los Angeles or experience working remotely

  • Familiarity with mobile game development

  • Preference for minimal, non-photorealistic art styles

As a note, skills acquired from related positions can prove to be useful and transferable. For enthusiastic applicants whose skill set is close to what we’re looking for, please consider applying whether or not you tick every box above. Applications from diverse backgrounds are encouraged.
