Hi everyone, Maya/3d modeling beginner here with a project I'm working on to familiarize myself with the modeling toolkit as well as the rest of Maya. I've been stuck for a while trying to figure this out.

What I did: I used quad draw to patch a hole of faces in my mesh.
What I already searched for: Flipped normals, inconsistent smoothing, conforming normals, merged all my overlapping verts, made sure all the verts were attached to the surrounding faces.

As you can see, quad draw left me with a patch of darker faces I can't seem to fix. Everything that turns up on google seems to point to normals but for some reason smoothing doesn't do anything (smoothing or hardening edges) - nor does conforming normals which I thought would be the end all fix. Any hints as to what the problem is?
