Maya LT - IK Handle Going Crazy Issue

Im following along with this amazing tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_A5XJmqSSE&list=PLt_Y4A81J7Bd7mxwP_Gi-ttVuL30QRY7d&index=58) and hit a road block.

Basically I try and create a IK handle from the wrist to the top of the arm and my entire join chain goes crazy. All my bones are parent constrained to their respective curves, so the curves control the bones. In FK everything works great but the IK messes up. I figured out that the issue is not the orientation component but the translate component. If I only orient constraint the wrist then the IK handle works fine. But sadly I need both... Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening?

In the tutorial this doesn't happen and he used parent constraints as well.
