Can't mask by alpha with Dynamesh?

Hey guys!
ZBrush novice here trying to get my hands dirty with the program but I've run into a bit of a snag with dynamesh. I need to perform some boolean cuts which, at least from what I've heard, is done via dynamesh. That works fine and all, however I also need to do some alpha masking, but after I turn something into a dynamesh the option to 'mask by alpha' becomes greyed out though it works just fine when the object is just a polymesh.
I'm sure it just boils down to something I'm missing or not fully understanding, so any tips would be greatly appreciated!
