Brush Resolution?

Hello everyone. I just picked up hand painting my own textures, and I had a quick question about brushes. I'm making my own brushes along the way, however sometimes when I paint I feel like I'm losing resolution with my brush preset when I size up or down.

Is "brush resolution" such a thing, or am I crazy?

I would love to hear any and all tips and advice over the subject. This is sort of new to me, but I fell in love with it immediately. I'm most interested in best "brush creation" tips to hold that high resolution.

Your uv texel density will play a role. Even a high-res scanned brush tip will lose fidelity if there aren't enough pixels/texels to apply it to.
