WIP - 2.5D Game 'Rhune'

Hello everyone, 
We are a group of three Games Art Students and this is our 2nd year project. 
We are working on a 2D game called 'Rhune' and any feedback and critique will be greatly appreciated. I will post a progression of our work from the start 'till now. We've been working on it since early February and are aiming to do at least another level area by May.

A bit of background story: 
The Player takes the role of Rhune, a cavernous creature whom is to be the  guardian of the Totem in the Labyrinth she lives in.
The Totem in  stabilises the balance of this realm and the creatures within it; comprising of fragments of stones. These stones harness a certain energy of spirits from within and this is what is said to keep the balance of the Land.
 Rhune’s mother, the previous guardian, fought against Explorers who had broken through the barrier of the cave, but failed to do rid of them and was rendered wounded. The explorers succeded in taking a piece of rune for themselves, consequently upsetting the balance and unleashing a force of negative energy.
The other Guardians of the Labyrinth managed to defeat the Explorers however the dark energy twisted their minds and reconstructed their beings to corrupted beings.
 Rhune takes her mother’s position to retrieve and obtain the ruins to return the totem to is former state.
