How do bake normal maps for this?

I'm mostly animator, but do some asset creation for fun. Max->Substance Painter->Unity

How should I approach baking normals for this thing? Current plan is blowing it up and bake normals in Max for instances for the repetitive bits, etc. reassemble the normal maps and game mesh afterwards for export. identical UV islands will be offset by 1 so nothing's overlapping. AO is probably okay baked in Substance. 

Any pointers would be much appreciated!
