extrude between to profiles

I'm trying to extrude between two profiles, surfaces > extrude, this is my result; far cry from what I want, which is fairly simple ?

I tried loft, the results are not clean, regardless what option I toggle for the loft settings

Selection order matters. Try selecting your objects in reverse from whatever you were doing. I believe it's profile first, then path.

It can't be, it's not working because I rebuilt the curve after it was created ?

you might have to delete history on the curve after you rebuild it, could be the loft and extrude tools want to work on the geo directly and are having problems with the node history
