Hey all,

I looked for a thread, but didn't see one. I was informed this morning by a colleague that Substance Designer is on sale on Steam right now for 40% off. It's also part of the Community's Choice vote, and if it wins, could be 66% off. Voting ends in a little over 4 hours from now.

It does specifically list it as Substance Designer 4. It's not very clear if the update to 4.5 is included.

So, if it interests you at all, I recommend voting!

I believe Allegorithmic has said for Substance or painter, .x updates will always be free, only X.0 or major releases will cost users more money.

Perfect, thanks. Yeah, I only see one place on Allegorithmic's site where they list it as 4.5 (in the big slider image on the SD page). It seems to be just listed as Substance Designer 4 in most places.

And it lost to Leadworks, no less. How many people actually even use that?
It can't be better than Unity, UE4 or CryEngine, and even on sale it's still more expensive than any of those. By far.

General public ftw! These aren't games, so people will be more likely to vote without looking to see what each software does. "Game Engine" is a pretty attractive buzzword.

I voted for Designer too. I actually got it from my brother for christmas, but my video card died a week before, and this backup card doesn't do SM3.0, so I can't use it for a while. :(

Sorry guys, I guess a lot of people had already taken advantage of the previous sale, hence the lower vote count. We weren't expecting there would be a community vote involving Substance Designer later during the sales, those are Valve's call.

Exactly this. I asked a bunch of people at work that I know have Steam accounts to vote. Most of them said they had already voted just to get the trading card and that they voted for the engine, because well, it had "game engine" in the title.
