-EDIT- Final shots!v Original Post v
Hey guys,
I've been working on this sword for a little while now. It's somewhat inspired by some swords from Lord of the Rings, but it's mostly my own design.
Here's sort of an overview of the materials and some reference that I threw together (this shot of the model is a bit old at this point):

And here's the most recent version of the model.

I'm not sure about the weird groove thingies in the fuller of the blade at the moment, so input would be appreciated.
Critique would be nice!

Also, glad you put name on the mini-tutorial. I pinned it to my board
Here's the state of the textures at the moment:
The leather definitely needs work; it's mostly just base colors at the moment.
I'd really love to get some crits on this!
Thanks!
other than that awesome sword!
Only critic I would have is that the gem looks more like wax then a gem.
@moleman: I think that's just the environment I put it in. In the texture it's completely desaturated. In my next shot I'll try out some other environments.
@Shrike: Thanks for the crit. At this point I think it's a bit too late to return to the old fuller, however I will try to reduce the noisyness on the blade.
@Dethling: Yeah, it's really hard to get a gem like appearance in toolbag.
@Shinigami, by cage do you mean the wires of the highpoly without subdivision, or the lowpoly?
@Tobbo: The blade is about 4000, the sheath is about 2700, and the straps and belt are about 7000 atm. I'll probably continue to optimize those bits because there are a lot of parts of those which are never seen.
Thanks again for the comments!
Also I did some work on the polycount for the straps and they're at about 6000 now instead of 7000.
Here's the final shots for this one!
and the final texture flats!
Thanks everyone who gave suggestions and criticism!
