ZBrush - zAppLink giving pixelated results

Hey guys, hoping any Zbrush artists could help me.

I was looking into replacing 3DCoat with Zbrush for low poly painting. I read that ZAppLink could do the trick; you only have to first create a texture so as to make ZAppLink drop what you painted to the texture and not to the vertex. The problem is, for some reason ZAppLink still refuses to obey :poly122:

So I import my UVed obj, set the size of the texture and create new texture (Tools>texture Map>Create Txtr)

It's big enough so that it doesn't look pixelated. I then use ZAppLink.

This is how it looks before saving and going back to ZBrush. Some parts of my model are mirrored so I only paint half.

So far so good, before clicking Pickup Now it looks alright.

As you can see, the results are blurry and pixelated. I read through some ZAppLinks issues, but my google fu didn't find me anyone who was having this particular issue. Any ideas? What am I doing wrong?
