Hey guys, One of my first/new projects from 2012/2013 was this Blakes 7 Liberator. I was inspired to do it after SyFy channel announced that they were commissioning a new 13 episode reboot of the 1970's series. The original model from the series was awful, in that it was very cheap and because of TV at the time not very detailed. Very little good ref exists but I decided to model the main features and then add more modern aspects to it, while still staying true to its original design aesthetics.
I finished it off with a rendered scene based on one of the original series iconic episodes called Redemption. Enjoy. (I imagine a lot of you won't remember this series though)
608,000 polys, a lot of curved shapes
Modeled in Maya 2013 and rendered with Mental Ray.
...and the finished rendered scene.
The final scene had a fair amount of post digital work done. The lightning arcs where hand draw with a Wacom A3 tablet in Photoshop CS5. I added lens dirt etc. for the final effect. I rendered the final scene at 3840 x 2160, the one here is just standard 1080p. :poly124:
Interesting design for a starship. I like how it appears functional while looking retro futuristic. I don't really have any idea what else to call it, lots of curves and finned sections.
Please post more of your sci-fi work here, polycount doesn't have enough spaceships, it's a untapped market. :]
Thanks, Ghaztehschmexeh. I have a Starwars Y-Wing WIP on here too. Check it out.
You should check out the original series Deamoria. Its dated really badly nowadays but that how spaceships where done back in the 70's/80's ha ha ha on British TV anyway. LOL
Nice ship. I have also built the Liberator a while ago, but I was never happy with my hull plating. Could you explain your process of making the hull plating on your ship. You can see mine on here. It is no where near as good as yours. I am intending to rebuild it soon. http://www.asimoventerprises.co.uk//pages/gallery/index.php
