Did you freeze transformations and delete history before you exported? Are your materials set up properly(Illum for 99% of assets) and your textures of the proper format(Terrain, Sky, MergedDetailMap, etc.)? Do you have any overlapping faces or extra vertices somewhere? Also, have you adjusted the lighting at all? Strong angles can have weird effects depending on the shape of the model.
Is your material Physicalized or does your object have collision? I don't think SurfaceType particles normally appear unless there's some sort of collision, so I think it's something to do with that.
Hopefully these help narrow the issue down. By the way, which version are you using? I have an issue with 3.5.4 where every other export or so of the same asset results in it not casting shadows on itself, but a re-export solves it. It may be a bug with whatever version of the RC you're using too.
