RyanB's Art Dump

Hi polycounters. I'm a part-time game artist, former full-time game artist. I have a wide range of experience but usually get slotted into the technical artist category.

The past few years I've been focusing on making asset packages for the Unity asset store. I've also built some prototypes for games using Unity and visual scripting languages.

I'm considering getting back into the industry in a year or two, depending on how long it takes me to finish my electrician apprenticeship. I'll be doing some effects in UDK (I have used UDK in the past) and other non-Unity packages soon.

Feedback is welcome and appreciated. Thanks!

Demo reel, mix of old and relatively new. Annotations explain what I did in each part.

Retro influenced Unity particles, uses a single square white texture for all effects.

Some energy weapon beams

Spell effects. All of the textures for these effects were painted on my iPhone during work breaks.

Prototype for a platformer. All textures painted using soft pastels and scanned in. I decided that this game should be an RPG so its on hold.

Updated Galaga tractor beam. Galaga is still a favourite.

Getting into pixel art lately. I'm planning on making an asset package of isometric dungeon tiles.

Your effects are looking pretty good as far as I can tell. Your demo reel is way to long and too diverse if you ask me. Personally your personal stuff interest me more than the professional. That environment prototype later in the reel looked pretty interesting, could give that some extra attention. Stuff's all over the place basically. The individual videos has more value.

Site's looking pretty clean which is nice. The column to the right when viewing a post could perhaps be simplified. Don't think showing the archive is that important. It's better the easier it is for the viewer to spot the important links, like your asset store stuff.

    Cool, thanks AimBiZ.

I definitely need an updated demo reel 100% focused on tech art stuff. I'm going to add some UDK stuff this year to balance out the Unity stuff.

3 minute old-school demo reel gots to go.
